Exodus - Bible Study

Here's a guide for reading the book of Exodus with a focus on understanding the heart of God and what He wants to convey to you:

1. God's Awareness and Compassion

  • Chapters 1-2: The Israelites' Oppression and the Birth of Moses
    • Reflect on how God is aware of the suffering of His people. Despite their oppression, God is working behind the scenes to prepare a deliverer. This shows God’s compassion and His plan to rescue those who are in distress.
    • Consider how God’s awareness of your struggles leads Him to act on your behalf.

2. God’s Calling and Empowerment

  • Chapters 3-4: The Call of Moses at the Burning Bush
    • Reflect on God’s personal call to Moses and His assurance to be with him. God equips those He calls, even when they feel inadequate. What does this reveal about God’s patience, encouragement, and provision in your life?
    • Consider how God might be calling you to a specific purpose, and how He promises to empower you for the task.

3. God’s Power and Sovereignty

  • Chapters 5-11: The Ten Plagues on Egypt
    • Reflect on the demonstration of God’s power over creation and human authorities through the plagues. God’s sovereignty is displayed as He systematically dismantles the power of Egypt’s gods.
    • Consider how God’s power is still at work in your life, breaking down obstacles and false securities.

4. God’s Judgment and Mercy

  • Chapters 12-13: The Passover and the Exodus
    • Reflect on the significance of the Passover, where God provides a way of escape from judgment through the blood of the lamb. This reveals God’s heart for justice and mercy.
    • Consider how God’s provision for salvation in Exodus points to His ultimate plan of redemption through Jesus, the Lamb of God.

5. God’s Deliverance and Faithfulness

  • Chapters 14-15: The Crossing of the Red Sea and the Song of Moses
    • Reflect on God’s miraculous deliverance of the Israelites at the Red Sea. This demonstrates God’s faithfulness to His promises and His power to save.
    • Consider how God has delivered you from difficult situations in the past and how His faithfulness continues to be a source of hope.

6. God’s Provision and Guidance

  • Chapters 16-17: Manna, Quail, and Water from the Rock
    • Reflect on how God provides for the physical needs of His people in the wilderness. His provision of manna and water shows His care and sustenance.
    • Consider how God continues to provide for your needs today, and how you can trust Him in times of scarcity or uncertainty.

7. God’s Covenant and Law

  • Chapters 19-24: The Covenant at Mount Sinai and the Ten Commandments
    • Reflect on the significance of God making a covenant with Israel. The giving of the law reveals God’s holiness and His desire for His people to reflect His character.
    • Consider how the Ten Commandments and other laws reflect God’s values and His desire for your life to be aligned with His will.

8. God’s Desire for Worship and Holiness

  • Chapters 25-31: Instructions for the Tabernacle
    • Reflect on the detailed instructions for building the Tabernacle, where God’s presence would dwell among His people. This shows God’s desire to be close to His people and to be worshipped in a way that honors His holiness.
    • Consider how God desires to dwell with you and how you can create space in your life for His presence.

9. God’s Mercy and Forgiveness

  • Chapter 32: The Golden Calf Incident
    • Reflect on the Israelites’ rebellion in worshipping the golden calf and God’s response. Despite their sin, God shows mercy after Moses intercedes on their behalf.
    • Consider how God is merciful and forgiving, even when we fail. Reflect on the importance of repentance and intercession.

10. God’s Renewal and Grace

  • Chapters 33-34: Renewal of the Covenant
    • Reflect on God’s renewal of the covenant after the golden calf incident. God’s revelation of His character to Moses (Exodus 34:6-7) emphasizes His grace, compassion, and faithfulness.
    • Consider how God is committed to restoring and renewing His relationship with you, even after you fall short.

11. God’s Presence Among His People

  • Chapters 35-40: Construction of the Tabernacle and God’s Glory
    • Reflect on the obedience of the Israelites in constructing the Tabernacle and how God’s presence fills it. This signifies God’s desire to dwell among His people.
    • Consider how God’s presence in your life brings guidance, comfort, and a sense of purpose. How can you be more aware of His presence daily?

Approach to Reading Exodus:

  • Journal Your Reflections: As you read each section, write down what God is revealing about Himself and how that applies to your life.
  • Meditate on Key Verses: Spend extra time on verses that highlight God’s character and His interactions with His people.
  • Pray Through the Scriptures: Turn what you read into prayer, asking God to help you understand His heart and apply His truths to your life.

By focusing on these themes as you read Exodus, you will gain a deeper understanding of God's character, His desires for you, and how He interacts with His people. This approach will help you connect personally with the text and grow closer to God as you study His Word.

Who we are in Christ

Understanding the Inner Man and Spiritual Transformation Perfection of the Inner Man "Perfect, perfect," Jesus says, and we declare the same. The inner man, our spirit, is holy . Say it aloud: "Holy, holy!" The inner man is righteous —perfectly righteous, and we affirm, "Righteous, righteous!" The Bible says, "I am the righteousness of God in Christ." This refers to our spirit man, not the soul or body. Repeat after me: My spirit man is the righteousness of God. My spirit man is the wisdom of God. My spirit man is the life of God. My spirit man is holy , perfect , and complete . When you're born again, God takes the old man out and puts a new man in. This inner man is created to be just like Jesus , but the soul and body need time to catch up to this transformation. Transformation Through Confession The inner man is perfect, but we must work out our salvation by letting this transformation affect our soul and body. Confession is key. As...
